Does Natural Acai Berry Really Work?
Written by Natural Acai Berry on March 8, 2009 – 11:41 pm -It is a question most of us have when buying acai berry products. Does natural acai berry really work? Well, if you needed scientific proof to show that acai berry actually works in the human body, we have it.
Natural acai berry has quickly become a popular health food for people across the world, but this was before any scientific research showed that it actually did anything. But now, a study from Texas A&M shows that acai berry does indeed work.
Showing the berry’s absorption in humans is important because it is known to contain numerous antioxidants. The berry is heavily marketed in the U.S. as a health food.
The study involved 12 healthy volunteers who consumed a single serving of acai juice or pulp. Researchers believe the results point to the need for continued research on the berry which is commonly used in juices, beverages, smoothies, frozen treats and dietary supplements.
“Acai is naturally low in sugar, and the flavor is described as a mixture of red wine and chocolate,” said lead investigator Dr. Susanne Talcott, “so what more would you want from a fruit?
Natural Acai Berry Destroys Cancer Cells in Lab
In another study done at the University of Florida, a study showed that acai berries triggered a “self-destruct” mechanism in 86% of leukemia cancer cells. There has been very little research done on the acai berry because it has been available in stores for only about a few years. It is hard to find natural acai berry in fruit form in stores because it spoils so quickly, but researchers were able to show that even powered or freeze-dried acai berry had great health benefits.
“Acai berries are already considered one of the richest fruit sources of antioxidants,” Talcott said. “This study was an important step toward learning what people may gain from using beverages, dietary supplements or other products made with the berries.”

Great article. One thing to note is that the majority of studies have been done using freeze-dried Acai, not the cheaper extract or spray-dried Acai powders.
